Palazzo de’ Rossi | 20th-century Collections

The 20th-century Collections at Palazzo de’ Rossi is a permanent exhibition focusing on artists active in Pistoia since the early 20th century. This selection of works shows how dynamic and enterprising the Pistoia area has been in responding to and engaging with national and international developments, movements and contexts.

The artists on display include Galileo Chini, Andrea Lippi, Mario Nannini, Eloisa Pacini, Pietro Bugiani, Egle Marini, Marino Marini, Fernando Melani, Gualtiero Nativi, Mario Nigro, Roberto Barni, Umberto Buscioni, Adolfo Natalini, Gianni Ruffi, Federico Gori, and Zoè Gruni.

The display features works from the Fondazione Caript Collection and the Intesa Sanpaolo Collection of 20th-century Pistoia art. The Liceo Artistico Statale Policarpo Petrocchi of Pistoia has kindly agreed to loan the work Scioperanti (The Strikers) (1913) by Andrea Lippi.

The rooms also house the In Visita (Visiting) project, a temporary exhibition of 20th- and 21st-century works in dialogue with the permanent collection.

With the aim of increasing accessibility to the building – which is also the head office of the Fondazione Caript – some areas of the building that were once off-limits to the public, such as the Terrazza Grandonio, have now been reconnected to the surrounding urban space. Visitors can relax in these delightful areas, which are independent of the entrance to the exhibition rooms.
